1. Stitchy Central (Main Festival Venue)

The central place for all your Stitched Up Festival information with maps and the latest news of stitchy happenings around the town and further afield.

Featuring Stitching a Story – a non-juried, non-judged community textile exhibition. Vote for your favourite in the People’s Choice Award with the winning entry receiving cash prizes.

There will also be displays from The Oxley Knitters, Embroiderers Guild Victoria, NE Branch and Peechelba Machine Embroidery Group, and demonstrations by local craftspeople throughout the week (see program overleaf).

Schools, Kinders & other Community Groups have banded together creating Wall Hangings and 3D Story Trees for display at the Post Office Arcade and the Co-Store.  Check out the textile talents from Wangaratta’s young folk and the stories they tell.

 

2. 2017 Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award

The exhibition of finalists in the fifth biennial Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award. As a $10,000 acquisitive award the selection attracts contemporary textile artists on a National level and showcasing world-class innovative contemporary textile art. To coincide with the 2017 Contemporary Textile Award the winner of the 2015 Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award, Safe by Kate Just will be featured with its sister banner Hope. These two significant works are proudly now part of the Wangaratta Art Gallery Collection.

 

4. Seasonal Stories Exhibition

Around 40 textile artists responded to the Stitched Up Seasonal Stories challenge of one artwork per season to evoke the ebb and flow of the seasons through imagery and impressions - created using a variety of textile techniques such as weaving, embroidery, applique and patchwork.

The Cathedral Friends present a collection of theatre costumes portraying vignettes from the world of stage and screen, against the backdrop of the magnificent Cathedral.

 

6. Strictly Quilts

A quilt exhibition by The Rural City of Wangaratta Quilters showcasing a year of quilt making by members of quilting and textile art groups. This year’s celebrity quilter is Barbara McCabe, a local textile artist who includes some quilting among her many techniques. Buy a ticket in our raffle with this year’s prize being donated by the Wangaratta Saturday Quilters.

 

7. Textile Tales of Life, Love and Loss

8 July-25 August

Featuring textiles from the 1800s until the late 20th Century and their extraordinary tales. It will include items from Melbourne artist Anzara Clark, The Tumbarumba Women’s Hut and Carol Sonogan. Exhibition Talk Sunday 9 July 2pm

 

8. Wangaratta Hand Weavers and Spinners

Special display and sale of beautiful handcrafted scarves. Displays and demonstrations of spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting and felting.

10. Much Ado about Felting – A joint exhibition of Felted Wearable Art by Margaret Wilmot & Barbara Pritchard

This collection by two established textile artists, is inspired by Shakespearian story lines. 11. Textile Swap Meet Market

An opportunity to buy preloved textile supplies. Surplus fabrics, threads, books, sewing notions and all things textile related will be up for grabs! Individuals or groups can hire a table for $10 to sell any textile items, materials or tools both new and used.

12. Tales from CWA
